Covey Rise Clayshoot Event
24009 Spring Waterfall Rd., Husser, LA 70442
Where: Covey Rise is located at 24009 Spring Waterfall Rd., Husser, LA, (about 30 minutes outside of Hammond and North of Robert). It was formally known as the Krumpi, owned by the Sharp family, and was the site of many pledge retreats in years gone by.
When: We currently have the venue reserved for Friday, November 1, 2024, before the serious hunting season begins, and not in conflict with major college and professional football games.
What Is it About: Teams of 4 shooters will test their skills at shooting clay pigeons on about 15 ranges setup on the Covey Rise property. Shooters will travel from range to range on a 4-man cart provided by Covey Rise (and is included in the entry fee). Free food, beer, and beverages will be served at the end of the shoot, and the best teams will be awarded prizes.
What Will It Cost to Participate: The entry fee is set at $250 per player. For this, the shooter fee is covered, the cart fee is covered, and food, beer, and beverages are covered. It also covers the cost of hosting the event, such as the Covey Rise facility rental, bathroom access, prizes, and miscellaneous expenses.
What About Guns: Covey Rise will NOT allow a 10 gauge. Most people shoot either a 12 or 20, but they also allow 16 or 28 and a 410. Most people use a semi-auto as well as an over-under. Players may bring their own shotguns. If a player does not have a shotgun, Covey Rise will rent one for $30. Note that Covey Rise only has 30 shotguns to rent, so it’s first come, first serve for this.
What About Ammo: Each player will need 100 shells. The player can bring his own shells, or the player can buy 100 shells from Covey Rise for $50.
Are There Any Other Costs That a Player May Incur: Mulligans can be purchased in case the player wants to re shoot (this cost may run in the $20 range, but it has yet to be finalized). We plan on raffling a gun at the event (the price for the ticket packages have yet to be finalized but could start in the $10 range).
Can a Range be Sponsored: Sponsorships are available for $100. A player can sponsor a business, a deceased Delt Brother, his hunting dog, his wife, or anything he wants to, as long as he pays the $100.
How much Profit can be Generated: If 52 players participate (13 teams) we can expect to make $3,200 in profit plus an additional $2,100 (est.) from sponsorships, mulligans, and the raffle, for a Total Profit of $5,700. If we have 76 players (19 teams), we can expect the Total Profit to exceed $9,000.
What’s the Breakeven: Based on the model attached to this summary, it will take 16 players to breakeven. But if we only have 16 players, the model will be reconstructed to where our breakeven could be as low as 10 players.
What Happens if it Rains: This ain’t no golf or baseball. There ain’t no rain out dates. You shoot in the rain unless there’s a late hurricane or it’s lightning (which will cause a temporary delay).
What is the Cutoff Date to Enter: The last day to register is Sunday, October 6, 2024.
Can Other People Beside Delts Enter the Event: Yes! Delts and any friends of Delts may enter. What Are Our Upfront Costs: Covey Rise requires a $500 deposit to reserve the space.
How Will DTDHAC Use the Total Profit: We can fund regional social events to generate interest in the activities of DTDHAC and build our membership. We can contribute to the various Endowments that support the undergraduate chapter. We can contribute directly to the undergraduate chapter to help with immediate needs. We can support events sponsored by the SLU Alumni Association. Any use of funds in the situations described above ultimately benefit the undergraduate chapter.
